Yes, it's not uncommon for the other major AVs/Security programs to "complain" a bit during installation about MBAM and other anti-malware apps.

It's more about marketing than incompatibility.

So, yes, "best practices" sometimes requires a temporary uninstall of MBAM --> AV/firewall install/upgrade/configuration --> reinstall of MBAM.

 

(I assume you are using a free version of Avast! without a built-in firewall?  Having 2 firewalls installed -- even if one is turned off -- can lead to problems, because of driver clashes.)
