  1. Hi I've needed to change my antivirus and I've trialled many but I found many to be very heavy and slowed my computer down. I have found Vipre to be the lightest so I'm thinking that I may use this one. What my question is, will it protect me? I be using it with MBAM Pro and Comodo firewall (D+ disabled). Will this be enough because Vipre doesn't score very well on AV Test or AV Comparatives. I consider myself to be a safe user and I don't file share or use cracked programs and other potentially dangerous practises. Just thought I'd ask as you're the experts! Thanks In case you ask 'have you tried ####?' Here's the list of programs I've tried (in no particular order): Bitdefender (AV/IS), Avast (all versions), Avira (all versions), Norton IS, GData (AV/IS), AVG, Kaspersky (AV/IS), TendMicro IS, Comodo IS
  2. Just a quick update that the problem has been fixed. Make sure you have updated to definition 111206-2
  3. Hi (Please move if in wrong forum) Avast! appears to be wrongly detecting C:Windows/system32/drivers/sfloppy.sys as a rootkit. I have been affected by this and there currently a post on Avast's forum with about 19 replies(which I am one of). http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=89963.0 Oh and before asks, my computer has been certified clean by a trained malware remover and computer techie. Hope this helps someone
  4. Although I'm not American (and therefore don't celebrate thanksgiving), from what I can remember from school is that thanksgiving was a giving of thanks to 'God' for safe passage across the Atlantic and that President Lincoln made it a federal holiday on the last Thursday(?) of November. But at this moment it time I'm glad that I'm fully prepared from my first finals exam for my physics degree on Friday 25th! And of course I am lucky to have such supportive parents and friends who are always around to administer 'tea and sympathy'!
  5. Hi Thank you for your replies. I manually found the driver and it was a left over from Vipre antivirus free trial so I ran the Vipre removal tool again and no problems so far. But I will make sure that all other drivers are up to date. If the problem still occurs I'll ask again. Thanks again
  6. Hi I'm having what appears to be driver problems. What happens is that my computer randomly locks up and has to be switched off by holding the power button down until it turns off. This has gone from being annoying to something that could be really be 'hurting' my computer. Are there any free (and safe!) programs which will update the driver(s) in question or does anyone here have any other ideas. Here is the event viewer log: The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load: SBRE Details Product: Windows Operating System ID: 7026 Source: Service Control Manager Version: 5.2 Symbolic Name: EVENT_BOOT_SYSTEM_DRIVERS_FAILED Message: The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load: %1 Explanation The specified drivers did not load correctly. 7. Hi I'm an Avira Internet Security 2012 user. Yes, it does want you to uninstall Malwarebytes but this is easy enough to sort out. This method is if you are installing Avira with Malwarebytes Pro running: 1. Disable Malwarebytes. 2. Install Avira. 3. Add exclusions within Avira and Malwaebytes. 4. Re-enable Malwarebytes and your good to go. If Avira is already installed but Malwarebytes is uninstalled: 1. Download and install Malwarebytes free. 2. Add exclusions to Avira and Malwarebytes. 3. Insert your ID and product key in to Malwarebytes. I have used both methods one on my computer and the other on my Parents'. But if you really want to change from Avira I would recommend Avast Internet Security (which I use on my netbook). Hope this is useful
  8. Hi Thanks for your help, sorry for my late reply I had an unexpectedly busy week. I successfully configured both Outlook and Thunderbird to keep copies of emails on the server, unless deleted. Thanks again
  9. Hi I've just bought myself a netbook for my final year at university and I was wondering if I can have mail from the same email address going to Outlook on my main laptop and to thunderbird on the netbook (eg myname@emailprovider.co.uk set up on both outlook and thunderbird), so I can get emails where ever I am. I have been on the internet but get mixed messages( ). I don't think that there should be a problem but just want to make sure. Thanks
  10. Hi Thanks for your reply. I'll now run the scans separately just in case (although I doubt there will ever be an infection as I am very careful!). Thanks again
  11. Hi I was wondering if running a Avira Premium and Malwarebytes Pro scans simultaneously will affect their detection performance. I do this as it is two scans that only take ~15mins rather than 30mins if I ran then separately. Malwarebytes is fully excluded from Avira and vice versa. Thanks
  12. Hi I'm here to see if I'm infected or not as I have had this computer for 3 years now and never had it fully checked(just regular Malwarebytes/antivirus scans). 13. Has anyone else noticed that their computer is faster after installing the new version?
  14. Hi Until someone with more experience appears perhaps this may help. I'm assuming you followed Buttons instructions in post #11(uninstall previous firewall and proceed with the new full install) and that you ran the ESET removal tool? If you did these two things then: - try scanning using Malwarebytes. - boot in safe mode and scan using Comodo. - disable Comodo and run an online scan such as ESET online scan, Trend Micro Housecall, F-Secure online scan. - if that doesn't work then ask in the Comodo forum (although they are a bit slow) Regards
  15. Hi Thanks for your help, glad to know that everything is OK. Don't have keepass installed but I might install, it looks useful. I may go to Avira about the last one. Thanks Again
