Pushing out client from Group Policy/Admin console questions.

Recommended Posts

Hi there, we have the server setup and all ready to go, pushed out the client though the admin interface via AD groups. So far all good.

Now, we want to make sure all our PC's are covered and have MBEE installed and would like to push the client out through a Group Policy.

Is there any official documentation to do this? Also will the admin console update with the new clients as well, I assume the clients will auto contact the server when they are started.

As well when the PC's are removed from the domain and no longer used, will they remove them selves from the list of clients in the MBEE admin console?

Thanks

Hi tzmueller!

Just to make sure I understand, you have already deployed the client out via the management console, but you would like to deploy through GPO for future clients?

To deploy the client via GPO or any other means you can export a MSI package from the console.  I will explain how:

1) Click on the Policy Pane
2) Choose a policy
3) Click on "Installation Package."
4) Choose a directory, usually desktop unless you want to make a specific folder for your installation packages.
5) Choose a Client Group, if any have been created.
6) Choose whether or not you want Start Menu or desktop icons.
7) Choose whether you want an EXE file or MSI file.
8) Click Export.

This will generate a file at the desired directory.  You can then use this file in your GPO.

That is correct.

So after the client is loaded onto the new machine via the GPO install will it update the Admin Console automatically?

We have them listed via their AD group. If the client is part of an AD group we haven't added yet, will it add the group automatically in the admin console?

Yes, the client will communicate back to the server after install.

When you create a client package you will leave it as "Ungrouped Clients."  If the computer is part of an AD OU and that OU is imported into the console it will automatically add itself.
