  1. I have to format my computer, not malware. How do I get my ID and key when I reinstall?
  2. Followed your instructions; removed program completely then reinstalled. Just had a notice appear advising that Malwarebytes had updated. It appears the program is now updating automatically. Thanks for your assistance.
  3. I have had the paid version of Malwarebytes since 1/20/09. The program never updates automatically. The box is checked for auto update. My laptop with another paid version does update automatically. Wonder what the problem might be?
  4. Hi, Good information. I have bookmarked several sites and will read them. Thank you again for your assistance in reaching a conclusion to my request for help. Have a good day, Starfire
  5. I shut down McAfee and let Windows firewall and Defender take over protection. After about 11 hours Windows firewall had allowed one query through. I uninstalled McAfee, cleaned up the registry and other things left behind, then downloaded a new copy of McAfee (McAfee came loaded on the machine from Dell with a 3 year subscription included in purchase. I just renewed the suite for 2 years). The new copy would not work properly and I could not get the problems sorted out. I decided to dump McAfee and clean up the system and start over. I had ZoneAlarm firewall protection on a system prior to this one and was very satisfied with it. So, I now have ZoneAlarm Pro on this system and have not had any intrusions sense installing the program. To protect the system against viruses, spyware ect ; I installed avast Antivirus. Both programs have many bells and whistles that will take me quite a while to get accustomed to. You must have been correct when you wondered if the McAfee firewall had been corrupted by malware. I guess this is the time to say thank you and suggest that you close my request for help. It appears that a good firewall has taken care of the problem. It has been a learning experience for me. I am 74 years old so I need to keep my mind active. Take care - Starfire
  6. Hi, I do have a problem. McAfee is controlling fire wall and virus scan. I cannot turn windows firewall or defender on or off as long as McAfee is on the system. I am going to remove McAfee and then activate windows firewall and virus protection. I plan do do this with my Internet connection unplugged. I can update after I complete the changes. Your last post will assist me. I will get back with you 7/5/10 in the AM to let you know what has happened. Thank you
  7. Hi, I will disable McAfee and turn on Windows 7 firewall. I will post the results after 12 hours. Thanks
  8. Hi, It appears that the malware is still concealed somewhere. Elise025 You have to be frustrated by this search effort and very likely have used most, if not all, of the tools at your disposal. What I am saying is feel free to tell me this search must end. Below is the showing activity that occurred today. 9. Hi Followed your instructions. Everything is ticked to automatic as requested. After ipconfig /flushdns I got the following message; successfully flushed the DNS Resolver Cache . Will observe the log on Malwarebyte and advise you of results in approximately 12 hours. Thanks
  10. Hi If this machine is so smart it should recognize that I have disconnected the router and no longer have an ethernet. However I found the information you requested in local area connections. It is enabled, active, and tracking information (bytes) in and out. As an aside, I clicked on the disable button and the machine lost its internet connection. Needless to say, I enabled the local area connection again. If this machine says I have a local area connection, so be it. Below is the information you requested. 11. Hi I will try to find the information in your last post and get back to you. I did some research via Google and found a comparison of Windows Vista and Windows 7 Network and Sharing centers. The Manage network connections you asked me to click on is in the Windows Vista center. I am running Windows 7. Thank you
  12. Hi I did not mean to put that wink in my reply. I was goofing off and screwed up. thanks
  13. Hi That is the path I have been following. Just to make sure I was not missing something, I did each step as you instructed. At the end of the path there is no "Manage network connections". I tried to scan a page from a book "plain and simple Windows 7" that shows exactly what I see when I follow your instructions. However, I could not get my scan to notepad to show it to you. If you have access to that book, look at page 255, View the Network, and you will see what I see. Thank you
  14. Hi elise025 I have hit a wall. I click on "View your basic network information and set up connections". The following comes up: CB-PC-------------Gateway------------Internet (Internet is my word. A globe internet symbol is actually displayed) I single click on the globe and Windows Internet Explorer opens on www.msn.com . I know this is not the information you are after. I have hit the proverbial wall. Thanks
