  1. thank you so much for your reply back today. i dont have AVG turned on for real time nor the firewall(i dont think anyways),i use it for scans every once in awhile.i will check. regardless i will do what you say and delete one. the link you sent me is kinda hard to read(on mine anyways)due to some google advertisments right in the middle of the paragraph. i got the jist of it though. about 3 hours before your reply all my icons came back after i used about 6 icons on the screen. wasnt my intentions for finding a cure, just using the programs---then after that i finally noticed---hey there all back!, too stange. ==Did you notice anything in the HJT that could be deleted out? ==You dont think that the malaware stuff MBAM found and i deleted had anything to do with the icons changing? (i kinda noticed that you guys do fix our computers out here and i for cannot express the thanks enough for it but never really explain why or how anything happens). there were 6 entries basically 2 sets of 3 think 1 said disabled firewall alert, another said disabled anti-virus alert and i dont remember what the 3rd said. but each was done twice i remember that. i downloaded the shellicon fix and have it saved should i need it in the future. thanks once again and please post 1 more reply for my questions i just wrote. THANKS, Hard

  4. hi jean, sorry for being such a pain in the butt and still a very very warm thank you for helping me out. i know about msconfig from the other computer and having problems when i 1st found malwarebytes(way back like 2 years ago). the "brask" has been unchecked all along in the startup section of it. what i was asking was---how do i delete it totaly out of there(like so i dont see it anymore?) occasionally i see i new icon down by the clock that i know isnt suppose to be there, thats when i goto msconfig and see whats goin on. as for that other stuff you wrote for me to do/try,i dont think im in that catagory, none of that crashing restarting stuff is happening to me,well it is but not in the sense your probaly thinking. it asks me to choose what operating i want to run,if i choose "xp settup"thats when it reboots,if i choose "xp home edition"it goes on fine. ive tried taking a screenshot of it but it wont take--dunno if its to early in the start process to let it-i dunno maybe. id swear it has somthing to do with the xp disc that i used to get things going again...like it didnt finish or something...maybe?(it never told me it was done or anything like that if any of this sounds familiar or you have no clue,do you know of anywhere i can look/search for answers.im getting nothing searching. thanks once again.
  5. so sorry jean, didnt see the very 1st line you wrote about taking it out of startup. i dont know how to do this.unless im mising somthing very simple... sry,im no good at doing the important stuff on the computer.
  6. thank you so much jean. what about the black startup screen? what about "brastk.exe"still being in the configuration startup page in msconfig? what are your thoughts on these questions? can you send me someplace to figure out how to 1)stop the start page thing 2)how to get rid of(delete) the brastk entry in the start up page in msconfig i know this might not be the proper place to ask but both of these problems are a result of being infected by the brastk thing im pretty sure. again thank you so much for all the help. just send an email stating what you think
  7. hi jean, i dont think its doing the safe mode thing,i payed attention tonite when i started. i t says"please select the operating system to start" "microsoft windows xp home edition" "microsoft windows xp setup" "use the up/down arrow keys to move the highlight to your choice" "press enter to choose" if i select setup it just keeps restarting and asking the same thing here,if i choose home edition it goes on as normal. think this has something to do with when i put the xp disc back in to get things goin again? thats when i started seeing this page. i did not see those 2 entries when i sent the log yesterday..hmmmm,so much for being comp. genius huh?...lol brastk.exe is still in the startup menu in msconfig page(still unchecked)..can we delete this after we're done?i dont like seeing it. i didnt have to reboot in normal as requested as i wasnt in safe mode but i did anyway for you. sry for the long write ups, just more info for you to tackle upon, please feel free to tell me to stop if this is a bad thing. well...here the logs u requested. cant thank you enough for looking into my situation. 8. here you are...hope i did it right. i should also mention(which i forgot about before)..... when i turn my comp. on i get a screen asking somthing like "which way do u want to start windows",somthing like that i dont remember at the moment. its a black screen. i do remember that i have to choose "use xp home edition"for it start goin, otherwise it reboots again and asks the same.ill pay more attention to this the next time i turn it on. the panda scan says my norton is disabled...my norton says its working and im protected. which is right here?something is going on here obviously because i caught somthing. i also have that "brastk.exe" thingy in my startup(unchecked)in msconfig. thanks for attending to my issue. 10. dont know if this is the right place for this or not, i have a problem similar to user"chasechunt". my computer started goin nuts last night-anyways i traced it down to "brastk.exe" thingy...which from what i researched does things assciated with the xp-antispyware thingy. here are some symptoms ive encountered--- 1)xp-antispyware wanting to download 2)loss of ie home page(have since fixed----i think) 3)cannot load specific sites to counter act the problem 4)could not get into safe mode(in safe mode now from doing xp upgrade do over) 5)could not get sytem restore to work 6)also have 2nd computer on router which doesnt seem to hold a connection(dont know if this is pertaining to this issue) 7)total loss of norton 360 here is what i have done--- 1)ran avg,a-squared,and ad-aware scans and deleted everything found(1 scan told me missing xp files vital to runnin system) 2)norton now works(still blocks computer from updating from symantic) 3)now in safe mode and am able to acces your site for info 4)dl'd MB,Spybot S&D,CCleaner and ran it,current version of HJT(not to sure how to use all of them) 5)unchecked bristk.exe from startup menu dont know if the upgrade stuff helps once i leave safe mode or not. think that covers it all,ask questions and tell me what to do if im in the right place for this. sorry for the long write-up but felt you should know all the stuff about the problem and what i did. im not real computer savvy.had problems along time ago with the other computer and you guys fixed me up great---so im a dedicated follower of your great site. thank you in advance for any help---please help!! hardracer
