  1. I have Malwarebytes Premium. The question: Why do I need a anti-exploit program when I have an anti-virus and anti-malware and anti-stalker? Why is it that something that is started, like an exploit is suddenly not malware, not virus, or any of the other kliddie-kewl' names for a virus? Not greed of course! Malware is by definition any malicious software; malicious ware = malware! OK? Exploits, and even rootkits are, ''malicious software'. Why is another malicious bit of software being separated from malicious software in to it's own "exploit" ? Not greed of course. But if not greed, then why separate them? i
  2. I too have a copy of the email. It looks like Phishing, even smells like Phishing. Not even a logo, I don't remember this ever happening with Malwarebytes before. After moving the "community" onto a known weak and vunberable hosting service, hundreds of, if not thousands of people will see the email as a Phish, and igniore it. Others who follow through, will ponder the reliability and security of Malwarebytes - I am! I am floored - that Malwarebytes would share pillows with a host known for it's flawed software - even if they do catch and patch quickly. It certainly raises eyebrows, and invites a sense of distrust in Malwarebytes, even if the full blame is put on Invision. I don't need to be in the forums/community and only diseceted the headers to ensure it actually came from Malwarebytes - and as suspicious as it still looked, changed my password. Now to request that my Forum/Community/Support account be deleted. i
  3. My thanks to you both. While I prefere to download from the source, and don't understand why not, except perhaps the cost to MB. I wonder - what would be more costly, the commissions to the dloader sites, or bandwidth. daledoc1: I appreciate all the links you provided and that will probably help many others who search for places to DL MB. Myself, I avoid them as much as possible. Any website that has to use trickery to get people to download trialware doesn't get my business. There is no reason to state "Your download will begin shortly..." It's a stall tactic toi get people top read their other 'downloads'. That is why I liked Mbam - because there is no 'free download' (who charges???), and the free, and trial versions don't spend a lot of time scanning and to fix problem, buy it. Your program actually let's us try it as if it were paid for. It's why I bought it. That, and it's a good program. thanks again... Got a un-bundled copy now. i
  4. The question: Is there somewhere I can download Malwarebytes Pro (MB) without having to download a program to download the program (MB)? The Reason: I know why cNet and ilk like them force one to download their program that lets us download MB's program. I'm not interested in giving them all the info they want, nor give up information to the 5 trackers they plug us in to once we hit their site. I'm surprised MB would partner up with the likes of cNet. I would strongly urge MB to at least do what some anti-virus sellers do and make the full download hard to find, but available non-the-less. MB has competition, and some allow choices - either one goes to the likes of cNet or others using downloads to download a download), or by checking, download from places that don't force visitors to their downloader to download a program. MB, if it doesn't have direct downloading, should announce it big time when they realize thier losses. Many do not not want to be anayzed by download programs. They just want to install without being peeked, poked and prodded. I
  5. Suggestions for the suggestion box When a customer submits a Beta report ticket/support request, don't wait a few days and then send a generic computerized response requesting they first try the basic Kbase. Have a human respond the first time. For Beta versions of anything, set up a separate Beta station where people can post the steps they took, their system, and the error/s encountered. If you won't set up something separate, have techs drop by -often- who can respond to the report. You could depend on a freebie and hope peers will find the answers, but let's have them all available so anyone helping Mbytes with their Beta testing isn't repeating the same things others have eported - - somewhere. Sincerley not testing and reporting any longer, I
  6. It would be beneficial for all if Mbytes would make the updates were available as a separate download. Anyone installing for the first time without Internet is hooped. It's easy to dl the Mbytes installer, but getting the update is not so easy - not, it seems, without risking the connection. And, making the installer and updates available from a trustworthy site would make Mbytes image better than those of the 3rd party shysters. You get in to bed with a shyster, and you look like one. I
  7. Hmmm. Not much has changed. The only problem I've encountered with 3rd to last party DL providers, is that they try to con the visitor in to downloading or misdirecting the visitor with [DOWNLOAD NOW] links all over the page that have noting to do with the file the visitor is wanting. Some end up installing fakeware that promises to find problems, and do, but to remove or correct the issues, costs more money. It's snake-oil sales pitches at its lowest. I try to avoiud any purchase of software that takes me to a site whose page looks like an explosion in an advertising agency, and the first "DOWNLOAD NOW link isn't for the software I want to buy, it's for some sleezy fix-all-be-0all-end-all-empty wallet all fakeware. I lowered my self-respect and security by downloading Mbytes off cNet. Then I was getting subscription notices, update notices, and more junk from cNet and cohorts. I fixed it by simply using another email maddress and losing the one cNet conived. Now, I never go to cNet, advise my clients not to use it or any thrird party download gin-site. It's like this - if the people I'm buying software from need to use someone else to store their downloads, they can't be good. period. I found this out too when I paid for my Mbytes, and was charged another $10.00 over and above the exchange rate. Mbytes said it ws their vendor (money collector), and the money collector said it was Mbytes policy. Would I buy it again = not on Mbytes life. Do I use it, of course - I paid for it, and paid more than most people have. They don't understand that it is the same as going to the store with $50.00 nin your wallet, paying $20.,00 for a new shirt, take the shirt home and find that there is only $20./00 left in the wallet. Calliong the store and tghey say, "Oh yeah - that was the processors fault - talk to them, and the processors says it was the store. N E V E R A G A I N. But that's not why I was reading this, it's to do with downloads. I don't get it - why does one have to download a program so they can download a program! How can one install Mbytes on a computer that cannot be connected to the Internet and, get the updates without connecting. Easy, use anopther computer, but gettting updates isn't as easy. There should be a separate means, and easy, well publicized way to get them - without opening a bare computer to all kinds of -stuff- to protect it from, all kinds of -stuff-. Back in the days before Googlenet, there was the Internet, and for the greatest part, all of it was honest - none of this shyster-like "Download Me" in your face fakeware.
  8. ISSUE:Can't depend on MalwareBytes (MB) to load at start. Keep getting the odd error code 2 on random days on random boots. REQUEST: A .bat file or macros set to run at boot to ensure MB loads, regardless of error code 2. DETAILS: On boot, am left with a window stating the following: [OpenEvent] Failed to perform desired action. Error Code:2 In order to load MB, after boot, one must: After boot, error showed up in popup "[OpenEvent] Failed to perform desired action . Error Code:2" Clicked "OK" in the error box (it's not OK really - but what can ya do) No Malwarebytes loaded. Ran Malwarebytes from Start > All programs > Malwarebytes Clicked "Protection" tab. MB window showed red warning box "Protection disabled" Clicked "Enable protection module" checkbox. MB Green box shows "Protection enabled". Clicked Update tab Clicked Check for Updates button. Downloaded 6.89 meg file Updated from version 7466 to version 7470 MB showed up in tray and in 'processes' but can't tell if it's working. Might be - might not be - can't be sure anymore. A lot of steps just load it at boot, and (can't) be certain it is loaded. I do test by checkling it every few hours - just to make sure it's in the tray and running. (Go to ctrl-alt-del > Task Manager > Processes and look for the 2 mbam processes. There are just 2 - right? Has anyone written a bat file or created a set of macros that will, on demand, or after everything is loaded, run the above 12 steps. In short - another 12 step program? I BTW - I don't think it right that any manufacturer of any thing should be allowed to put a product out in to the wild and leave it up to end users to fix any of the products problemns. It use to be included in the price. Now days, we buy somethuing, then either pay a "premium" to have it work, or depend on others to make it work. No offense to those that dedicate their time here to help others, you should be at beach instead, and the manufacturer should be here supporting their product - not at the beach. JMO
  9. With MB open, click on Help and it opens a screen with a link to MB and a "Help" button. The button opens a browser, and downloads a .CHM file. Finding and clicking on the CHM file causzes the browser to opne and begin the download of itself, again. oogle, not MB had the answer - use a command line (DOS) and type in the extract commands. After manually extracting the files, there are twelve files. 9 html files 1 hhc, 1 hhk and 1 logo file. None called default, index, start here or any indication which should be opned first. Hardly a professional way of doing things - leaving it up the end user to register in a forum to find an end user who might know a better way. The 'help' reads more like a 'buy me - buy me!' ad. The only thing that differs is - nothing is blinking and flashing in one's face. The forum description says "comments welcome". So, my comment is that I am disappointed in MB because: When I decided to purchase, the price was 24.95. When I received my receipt, it showed I had been changed an extra $1.50. When I asked why, the payment processing company said it was MB's policy to "add an up-charge". When I asked MB, they said it was their payment processors. Makes me wonder where the buck will stop, I mean buck-fifty. I know how to install software. I get my updates and everything as would a reg'ed version, but I also get notices that my "trial expires in " number of days! 24.50 + changing "up-charge" for a trial? What will they stink of next! Support is via a Forum - where it can be days to get a response and that might be 'yeah i have the same probs to.' to questions to a Trolls bait. But, I have seen some real answers here. Fast support? One must have the same fast credit card used to purchase the software so one can purchase help. Must have learned that watching late-night ads about telephone chats. Makes me wonder - did I end up with another one of those false-positives? I
