What does the RPP (Realtime Proactive Protection) module do?

Recommended Posts

Pretty simply, what does the Realtime Proactive Protection (RPP) module do?

Specifically, I have a client who is known for installing lots of software (lots of clients, in fact) who simply click through on installers with the whole Yes-Next-Next-Accept etc until the installer is finished.

If the installer has a browser add-on packaged with it, that edits and displays advertisements as part of the DOM (web page contents) - Will MBAM remove that add-on and/or remove it for the user?

Hi, Acen:

Until the staff have a chance to weigh in with the official explanations, here are some links to get you started:

This explains the PRO features: http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free/

The short answer about installers, wrappers, BHOs and other "PUPs" is, YES, MBAM detects them.
Here are some links:
What are the 'PUP' detections, are they threats and should they be deleted?
Malwarebytes Adopts Aggressive PUP Policy
Note, the default setting for PUPs is to show them in results and NOT check them for automatic removal.
In order to change that setting, so that they will be both reported AND checked for removal, there are instructions here: http://blog.malwarebytes.org/news/2013/09/selecting-all-pups/
