I thought y'all would like to know this good news!

ICANN Terminates EstDomains' Registrar Accreditation

http://fergdawg.blog...-regsitrar.html

Official letter to Estdomains here:
http://www.icann.org...-28oct08-en.pdf

It says they will lose the 181,000 domains registered with them. -- those domains will be transferred to another ICANN accredited registrar.

:)

What estMate was doing here, terminating domains, was too little, too late.

Edit... whoops, that's 281,000 domains they are losing.

EstDomains' defrocking delayed by ICANN

The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) terminated on Tuesday its contract with Estonia-based EstDomains, blocking the company's ability to offer Internet registration services, but temporarily stayed the judgment the following day to assess the firm's response to the accusations against it.

ICANN is terminating Estdomains for real this time.

http://www.icann.org...-12nov08-en.htm

Termination of Registrar EstDomains to Go Ahead

12 November 2008

The termination of ICANN-accredited registrar EstDomains is to go ahead, effective 24 November 2008.

On 28 October 2008, ICANN sent a notice of termination to EstDomains, Inc. (EstDomains) based on an Estonian Court record reflecting the conviction of EstDomains' then president, Vladimir Tsastsin, of credit card fraud, money laundering and document forgery.

Pursuant to Section 5.3 of the Registrar Accreditation Agreement (RAA), ICANN may terminate the RAA before its expiration when, "Any officer or director of [a] Registrar is convicted of a felony or of a misdemeanor related to financial activities, or is adjudged by a court to have committed fraud or breach of fiduciary duty, or is the subject of judicial determination that ICANN deems as the substantive equivalent of any of these; provided such officer or director is not removed in such circumstances."

ICANN received a response from EstDomains on 29 October in which it indicated that the Estonian Court record on which ICANN relied was not final and had been appealed. ICANN pended the termination of EstDomains' RAA to analyze the claims made by EstDomains and to obtain independent information regarding the status of the alleged appeal.

On 7 November 2008, EstDomains was informed that, based on ICANN's findings, ICANN was proceeding with the termination of EstDomains' RAA, effective 24 November 2008.

ICANN's records indicate that EstDomains manages approximately 281,000 domain names. To protect the interests of registrants, on 28 October 2008, ICANN published a Request for Informations seeking expressions of interest from registrars to receive a bulk transfer of the domain names managed by de-accredited registrar EstDomains.

ICANN is analyzing the responses to that request and will take measures to effectuate a smooth transition of the domain names managed by EstDomains to a qualified ICANN- accredited registrar.

For information regarding ICANN's De-Accredited Registrar Transition Procedure, please go to: http://www.icann.org...ure-01oct08.pdf [PDF,121K].

Registrants interested in immediately transferring their domain names are encouraged to read ICANN's Inter-Registrar Transfer Policy http://www.icann.org...icy-12jul04.htm for guidance regarding the transfer process

It looks like ResellersClub (part of Directi) will be hosting the EstDomains-domains and hopefully will terminate about 85% of them. :)
However, i'm not really sure if this is the best solution, as Directi also owns PrivacyProtect, which had links to .... EstDomains.

Ow well, maybe i'm just paranoid :D

I'm certain the people at ReSellersClub will pick up where EstDomains left off without so much as a hiccup.

May as well start IP block banning already.

No, this makes it official:
http://www.icann.org...-25nov08-en.htm

An estimated 281,000 domain names held by EstDomains will be transferred to ICANN-accredited registrar Directi Internet Solutions following the termination of EstDomains' registrar accreditation yesterday.

Customers of EstDomains will be contacted directly by Directi and receive notice of the transfer plus instructions for continued management of their names. There will be no cost to the registrants for this transfer.

EstDomains was informed on 28 October 2008 that ICANN was terminating the company's accreditation due to its president's conviction for credit card fraud, money laundering and document forgery. ICANN stayed that termination following correspondence with EstDomains. However, after further investigation, ICANN decided to go ahead with the termination, effective yesterday, 24 November 2008.

In accordance with the De-Accredited Registrar Transition Procedure, ICANN put out a request for statements of interest from registrars interested in receiving a bulk transfer of the names formerly managed by EstDomains.

As part of that procedure, EstDomains is permitted to designate a gaining registrar. It chose to use that option and identified ICANN-accredited registrar Directi. ICANN reviewed that request and approved it.

Registrants with names registered through EstDomains should contact Directi for customer service. Directi has set up a specific webpage to deal with the transfer, available at: http://directi.com/estbulktransfer. Also below are answers to some common questions regarding the bulk transfer.
