"Windows Recovery" malware got me, tonight. MBAM took care of the problem, but I lost ALL of my icons/files/pictures AND my c: drive.

I figured out how to "unhide" the icons and files via Properties. When I go to the command prompt to make sure there is no left over malware and type "dir", there is nothing to diplay. I get, "Volume in drive C: has no label". then it displays a serial number.

I know the files/programs are there, because I can do CD to Windows or any other program that I KNOW is on the drive. It just won't display any of the files/programs.

How do I UNHIDE the files/programs on my C: drive? (via DOS commands)

Thanks for any help.

Greetings and welcome :)

You should try the tool shadowwar posted here as it was created to resolve this issue.

Also, as you may still be infected you should read and follow the directions here, skipping any steps you are unable to complete. Then create a NEW topic here.
One of the expert helpers there will give you one on one assistance when one becomes available.

Please note that it may take 48 hours or more for you to receive a response in the malware removal forum, as it is often busy at times. Please do not reply to your own post asking for help unless its been more than 48 hours since you originally posted, as this can make it appear as though you are being helped and take longer for you to get help.

If you are unable to do all or any of the steps in the link to the directions above, just post your problem into the forum I gave you a link to anyway and someone will be able to assist you.

Thank you :)
