  2. Hello... It has been 2 days since my last post to you. Do you still need help with this problem? Do you need more time? Are you having any trouble when following the instructions? 3. Hi. I need some more information: Do you still have the cd's that were delivered with your computer? They look similar to this one if your computer has XP Professional: http://dsnimg.dell.com/images/external/images/OS/XP_CD.gif The CD is blue if your computer has XP Home. There should be one labeled "Operating System" and one labeled "Drivers and Utilities". As an alternative, you can use a Genuine Microsoft XP cd-rom if you own one. Have you tried to boot your computer straight into Safe Mode with Networking or the Last known good configuration? To access these options you will need to. Start your computer During startup, but before the Windows logo appears, tap the F5/F8 key continually or hold down the Shift key; Instead of Windows loading as normal, the Advanced Options Menu should appear; Select the second option, to run Windows in Safe Mode with networking, then press Enter. If the computer boots into windows Choose your usual account. Please shut down you computer. You can also try the Last known good configuration option from the Advanced Options Menu as described above. If your computer boots into windows please do not try any self help. Please tell me if you have any success starting your computer with these instructions. [*]Your Dell comes with an option to run hardware diagnostics. To access this builtin diagnostics: Start your computer During startup, but before the Windows logo appears, tap the F12 key continually; Instead of Windows loading as normal, the Boot Device Menu should appear; Highlight the Diagnostics option (if present) and press Enter. The computer begins to run the Pre-boot System Assessment, a series of embedded diagnostics that perform initial testing on your system board, keyboard, hard drive, and display If the Pre-boot System Assessment completes successfully, you receive the message Booting Dell Diagnostic Utility Partition Press any key to continue Press any key to start the Dell Diagnostics from the Diagnostics utility partition on your hard drive After the Dell Diagnostics loads and the Main Menu screen appears, click the button for the Express Test option - this will preform a quick test of devices. The test typically takes 10 to 20 minutes and requires no interaction on your part When you have finished running the test write down any description of problems found, then close the screen to return to the Main Menu screen. To exit the Dell Diagnostics and reboot the computer, close the Main Menu screen Please shut down your computer. Please post the description(s) of any problems found. [*]Since you are posting the problem at this forum, I assume that you have got access to another computer. What is the Operating system of this computer? Does this computer have the ability to burn a cd or DVD? [*]Do you own a USB drive (memory stick or external hard drive)?
