  1. No. I tested the cable with a laptop and it worked. However, just now it dropped out again so I pulled everything out and did a MTB reset and it came back. I think you are right - it may be an intermittent cable issue. I have replaced it now and will monitor stability.
  2. Amazingly yes. I didn't want to jinx it and have been monitoring the connection. It seems stable and good. I have run all AV checks and everything seems ok.
  3. Unfortunately, once again, I have lost my connection (with the same errors). There was nothing active on the machine at all for the period it was up (apart from AV scanners and Windows update). I used the TweakingRegistry tool to restore my registry and while it says it succeeded, it did not resolve the problem. Also - I am unable to roll back to any of my restore points. When I find and select a restore point, the next button is greyed out and unselectable. Is it possible there is some port open or some other gaping exposure that I'm not aware of? I'm at my wits end with this now and seriously considering a format and clean install in W10 - although I know it will be painful to reinstall everything. The network itself is still up as usual and I can connect with laptop/tablet, but not with the desktop.
  4. Everything seems ok so far (touch wood). Thanks Kevin.
  5. Hi Kevin, I'm not sure if the act of scanning (resetting?) did something but suddenly I have net access again. I'm a little suspicious though as my system time is out by exactly one hour (there is no daylight savings issue). I attach the logs and I would appreciate you reviewing. I will isolate the machine and do nothing meaningful on it for the next few hours to see if it behaves itself. Should I create a restore point now if it does appear to be in a good state? Cheers! 6. Unfortunately not. "One or more network protocols are missing on this computer".
  7. Hi Kevin, Unfortunately the reset does not restore the network connection. The fixlog is attached. Network troubleshooter says: "One or more network protocols are missing on this computer" "Windows Sockets registry entries required for network connectivity are missing." Fixlog.txt
  8. Unfortunately Kevin, less than a few hours after the restore I noticed that malwarebytes had discovered a virus. I cleaned it but I noticed that my default home page and search were now set to Yahoo. I ran full scans of mwb, sas and win defender - which turned up some more stuff (mostly adware). But then the network dropped out again - and the time is again shifted. It seems like I'm back close to square one. I'm gutted. The behaviour this time is different, in that all the applications (including Skype) run without crashing on launch. I have rerun frst and attach the first and addition logs. Hopefully something can be done. Any help would be MUCH appreciated. Addition.txt FRST.txt
  9. Thanks for all your help Kevin. You may close this thread!
