  1. Bill, I know this is old, but what AdvancedSetup never quite got around to saying is that it is not limited for those who use User Accounts without admin privileges. For example, my handle is ExpertNovice. An admin account could be named Expert and a user account could be created that does not have administrative privileges with a name of Novice. After adding Tamper Protection to MalwareBytes someone would have to know the password for account Expert to make changes. Thus, enhanced security.
  2. OOPS. I had overlooked that the $5.75 was a prorated amount for the $59.99. Now, it makes much more sense. My annual cost is actually increasing 50% and an additional device would raise it to 69.99. The previous post could not be edited. Sorry.
  3. Exile: Thanks for the support link recommendation. Based on my delving into future costs it is my suggestion everyone should research their own price increases. Just an FYI for others regarding your comment My first action was to log into my account. It lists past payments but not upcoming costs. The only reason I noticed a *possible* increase in price is because of an offer to cover an additional computer for "only" $10. This led to why I suggest everyone do their own research. This also is for others so they know not to just look at the numbers and make assumptions. The statement was that the $10 was a 75% discount which means the normal price is about $13.33. That makes sense as my annual pricing is $39.95 for three computers. It became very confusing when I read that, if the offer was accepted, my current $39.95 cost was going to jump to 59.99, a 50% increase. But wait, there is more! There was a prorated discount amount that came with a 5.75 credit. I *MUST* assume the prorated amount is $4.25 because with a bit less than 10% of my annual subscription left $4.25 would become $44.20 and $10 would become $104. A total of $104.20 for four computers seems high as we can now purchase protection for 5, not 4 computers for about $24 less per year. (BTW, I started as a math major and my BBA degree was in Accounting. I know the above pricing is incorrect but it is based on the information provided.) So, I will be contacting support to find out why such an increase in price.
  4. I am wondering why estimates.solar is blocked for fraud. (Fraudulent websites appear to be one thing, like a tech support site, a dating site, or a shopping site with illegal products or great deals, but they’re really scams to try to steal your information or credit card details.) Other threads have explained the issue but this domain was not found in any search. 5. FuzzyReception, No settings were changed on my system. If you are still on version 3.2.2 then try the "trick" in my original post. If on 3.3.1 respond to Porthos. Once Malwarebytes was updated from 3.2.2 to 3.3.1.2183 on November 4, all APPEARED to be well. However, I am unable to independently confirm if the builds, other than component package, are the most current. MB version 3.3.1.2183 (same as had the issue.) component package version 1.0.262 (current version as of December 7, per the forums) update package version 1.0.3466 (unsure if this has been updated since the problem occurred)
  6. Currently, I think my issue is a conflict where either Emsisoft or, perhaps Webroot is preventing the update. I am able to get Malwarebytes to update in two different ways. (1) uninstall and (2) restart the computer (I now use Alt-F4 because of a new Win 10 bug or feature). As soon as the desktop is displayed I right click the MB icon in the system tray and select Check for Updates at the top of the dialog box. The next time it fails I'm going to stop both Emsi and Web to see if there is a conflict. Additional info, immediately after purchsing MBAE that app was discontinued and I got some form of MB (there seems to be three names for the app and noone has been able to tell me which I have, it is either MBAE, MBAM, or MB3 depending on where I look. At that time all three companies told me there was no incompatibility so I continued with MB?. Within a few days of my license renewal for MB (and Win 10 update) these problems started. Now, MB is telling me not to run all three apps due to POSSIBLE conflicts. Quite aggravating but waiting to see what happens. BTW, MBAE was stopping exploits about once ever two weks. In one year MB has not reported any. Not sure of the reason.
  7. If it doesn't work post back. I may have another necessary step after upgrading to 3.3.1. This issue doesn't effect all computers.
  8. I ***MAY*** have found sort of a solution. If you are having this issue could you please try it. Restart Before the system tray apps are fully populated (before the restart is complete. Right click the MB icon and click "Check for Updates" This suggests one of the other protections apps (maybe even the Windows Firewall) is preventing MB from updating.
  9. Has anyone, who had the problem, come up with a solution to stop the constant requirement of reinstall MB (currently on MB 3.3.1.2183) to get updates?) I'm constanly warned by MB that my updates are not current. It doesn't matter which if the many "Check for Updates" buttons I click, it doesn't update. It always says, Checking, Downloading, and finally Check for updates. Total time: < 3 seconds. This is a known issue but I'm not seeing a solution. A case was opened but, as of yet, no response. Help desk wasn't they did tell me just to continue reinstalling. In another hread a very helpful individual started working with me has gone on vacation. GREAT! I'm glad they get to go and have zero issues with that. BTW, what is the offical name. Some call it MB3. The license renewal a few days ago calls it Malwarebytes Anti-Exploit Premium. The application itself calls it Malwarebyte Anti-Malware...
  10. Root Admin, mb-check-results.zip was sent The following is really for others looking for answers. You might quickly look at the underlined text. Especially important is to use the FRST logs with the date/time stamp "_02-11-2017 08.44.30". The date/time stamps are not yyyy-mm-dd format so they sort incorrectly. FRST needs to run with administrative privileges. Today, internet access was disabled. Then, on two accounts Webroot, Malwarebytes, and Emsisoft had their protections stopped. In both cases Emsisoft said Fileguard would remain active. Run 1 User account resulting file sizes: FRST_02-11-2017 08.38.52.txt 60 KB Addition_02-11-2017 08.38.52.txt 40 KB Run 2 Admin account resulting file sizes: FRST_02-11-2017 08.44.30.txt 63 KB Addition_02-11-2017 08.44.30.txt 50 KB Both times FRST64.exe started with the following error. From a bit of research it seems this error is simply FRST wanting to update itself but couldn't due the internet connection being disabled. --------------------------- Farbar Recovery Scan Tool (x64) Version: 26-10-2017 --------------------------- Failed to update (1) --------------------------- OK ---------------------------
  11. Could this be because the app was executed in a user, vs admin, account? I will do this in the morning, after getting a bit of sleep.
  12. Ok, everyone of you is having the same issue I am getting. A case opened, seems like a week ago, 51 hours ago has not yet been responded to. So far, the only correction has been to use the clean install utility that uninstalls MB and reinstalls. Daily.... BTW, if you are wondering about the application name for 3.2.2.+ it is both Malwarebytes Premium and Malwarebytes Premium Anti-Exploit. So, I opened an online chat to get help. Here are the pertinent points of the conversation. Tech: I can only recommend to turn of self protection and uninstall and reinstall Me: Ok, what is "self protection" and how do I turn it off. If I uninstall, doesn't that turn it off? Tech: Real time protection Me: (getting frustrated) So, I should simply use the Malwarebytes free version as I think the only difference is real-time protection. Tech: That is totally your prerogative They then showed me a list of differences between Premium and Free: Real Time Protection Anti-exploit Anti-Ransomware Malicious website protection I'm unclear how MB protects from exploits, ransomware, and malicious websites if realtime protection is turned off. Yet, that is their current solution. PS, the reason MB is not auto-updating is because they have that feature turned off. So, Turn off Real time protection and manually reinstall every day to keep the updates current. My issues began earlier than two days ago but I severaly days researching and trying to fix the issues on my own. The issue is most likely the Windows update which, for me, occurred on the 27th. So I do not blame MB for the actual issue, but apparently the help desk has no idea about this issue six days later.
  13. Update. The third paragraph, Firewall rules is explained in an Emsisoft forum which states: Post: EAM pops up an alert when FRST is reading (at least I hope that's all it was doing) the defined WF firewall rules. Response: There is no read-only access. The same COM object allows for both reading and writing. https://support.emsisoft.com/topic/28462-notification-of-firewall-rule-protection-alerts/?tab=comments#comment-176912 BTW, the requested files were sent along witha link to this thread.
  14. Thanks for your help. First, no refund will be requested as this is my subscription anniversary date so the charge is normal and expected. The "new version" was named "mb3-setup-cb.NT-3.2.2.2029-1.0.212-1.0.2951.exe". That matches what I have so they are simply using two names for the same application. I don't know if you know that Farbar SEEMS to attempt to change firewall settings. This attempt was blocked by Emsisoft Anti-Malware. (It might be that access allows only update and not read-only so nothing nefarious was going on. Here is the brief report. 10/31/2017 8:38:25 AM Behavior Blocker detected suspicious behavior "FirewallModification" of "D:\Jim\dlSoftware\New folder\FRST64.exe" No need to waste your time but if you have any suggestions on the following, let me know. Additions.txt reports system restore is disabled yet Windows reports it is not disabled and a restore point did exist. Now I'm getting nervous, it reported GoToMeeting was installed on 10/27, the date of the only system restore. I did not install it and it has been uninstalled. There are many System & CodeIntegrity errors and am wondering if I need to grab another HDD and start from scratch. You didn't ask for some of this information but here it is. ◦ How did you encountered the issue and any steps to reproduce it Malwarebytes tries to update upon reboot. When it reports it is not up-to-date "Check for Updates" is clicked which repeatedly fails. ◦ Do you get the same result more than once if you follow the same steps? Y/N Yes. Two days ago, the MB clean install app was downloaded and run. Same issue today. ◦ Any screenshot(s) of error messages(s) or other incorrect behavior Posted yesterday
