I figured it out!!!! I don't know why it's an issue now since I've been using AOL and McAfee for years on this computer but it does appear to be a conflict between the two pieces of software. I found a topic on a McAfee board that described the problem but didn't have a good solution other than disabling McAfee. I tried that and was able to get onto AOL with no problems. Given this and the fact that McAfee was up to date and running when I got infected with zlob, I think it's time to switch AV software. Thanks again...

Hi 1972vet... I fixed the two entries you mentioned. I also uninstalled and then re-installed AOL. AOL still hangs at the "checking password" step. At this point, I'm going to give up on AOL, at least for the time being. I'm tired of messing with it unless you have some ideas as to what's wrong. I've included the latest HJT log. I didn't see any viewpoint entries in the log but viewpoint folders are all over my c:\ drive. Primarily under C:\Program Files and c:\Program Files\AOL9.1\Jiti. There are more viewpoint folders in multiple folders under c:\Documents and Settings. Computer performance and Internet access continue to be very good. Viewpoint and old Java uninstalled. New Java installed and the entries you bolded for me from HJT that still existed seem to have been fixed. I didn't see the viewpoint dlls or exe that you mentioned above. I did delete the viewpoint folders from both locations. Computer is running great and Internet access is very good. One final issue that I should have mentioned in my first post but forgot to... you are correct that AOL is not our ISP but we do use AOL for email and my wife really prefers AOL's interface for working with email. Somewhere along the way, but before I contacted Malwarebytes, the AOL software stopped working. It hangs when it gets to the point of checking our passwords. Also, apparently the AOL GUI uses the viewpoint media player because now when I try to start the AOL I get a message that it's used to display content and it asks me if I want to install it. My original plan was to reinstall the AOL software for my wife after you gave me the green light that everything was fixed. I guess I'm doomed to have viewpoint on the computer because my wife isn't going to give up how she accesses email. Thanks again for all of your help!! Thanks for your quick reply!!! What's weird about Symantec and McAfee is that that's the way the computer came from Dell. Since I use McAfee I tried to uninstall LiveUpdate but was told Norton Ghost was using it and it couldn't be deleted. I'm not using Ghost so I uninstalled it along with LiveUpdate. I didn't see any other installed Symantec programs. I also uninstalled ViewPoint Manager. There was an entry for ViewPoint Toolbar but I didn't uninstall it since you didn't tell me to. Should I have? I don't use the toolbar. Internet speed is very good though I have to admit it's been very good since just before my first post. I'll have a better feel for how the computer is working tomorrow after my wife has had a day to use it. Thanks again for your help!! Hi There... my computer was infected with the zlob trojan earlier this week. I downloaded, updated and scanned using Spybot and had it fix everything it found. Popups continued so I downloaded, updated, and scanned using MBAM having it fix everything it found. I thought I was clear until my wife used the computer later that day under her log in and either popups continued or browsing was extremely slow. Sorry, I can't remember exactly. Anyway, I re-ran MBAM under her log in and had it fix everything it found. At that point, I rebooted in safe mode and re-ran MBAM under admin, my log-in and my wife's log-in. MBAM didn't find anything but Internet access was extremely slow. Next, I downloaded and scanned using Panda Active Scan and HiJack This (in safe mode). I don't know if you want just the latest MBAM scan or if you'd like to see what earlier runs fixed so I'm including 3 MBAM logs below. The first one that fixed items, the second one that fixed items and the one that came back clean which was run under admin in safe mode. I've also included the Panda Active scan and the HiJack This log. Finally, I have to admit that I may be having DSL dirty line issues as well. I was hoping to confirm that my computer's clean before contacting my ISP to address that issue.
