  1. This error has been my problem for quite a while now. My system (Windows 7 64 bit) boots normally but after a few minutes I get the error message "[Open event] Failed to perform desired Action. Error code: 2" I have tried everything suggested here. A total uninstall of MBAM and also the use of mbam-clean, followed by a reinstall (Norton Internet Security disabled as well as all other background programs) of the latest MBAM version. The program will work for one or two times, and then start failing and issuing this "Open event" error code. I can then not enable protection. This has been happening for weeks. The free Malwarebytes version worked perfectly. Now that I have the "paid" version, I am unable to use Malwarebytes. I have no other Security software installed other than Norton Internet Security which is totally up to date. All programs on my system are current (as verified by Secunia PSI). All drivers are current. Three days ago I decided to completely start over. I installed two new SSD's and then reinstalled Windows 7 Pro 64 bit full version. I added Norton and then I added Malwarebytes---but very little else other than ALL MS updates etc. Malwarebytes worked for less than one day. Norton continues to work and I DID add MBAM to the Norton exclusion list as directed on this Forum. Windows 7 Professional 64 Bit Norton Security Suite Version 4.3.0.5 is the only security installed other than Malwarebytes. My currently installed Malwarebytes version is: 1.46 The current Definitions version is: 5185 I use a Buffalo WZR-HP-G 300 NH Router with a 1.5TB Buffalo LS-XHL Series NAS LinkStation. I have no other problems with this system. As of today, 11-18-2010, I can not use MalwareBytes whatsoever. Any help with this will be deeply appreciated!
  2. Thank you for that information, but I have no idea what the "add on Pack" is. I am a Comcast Customer and they provide " Norton Security Suite, Version: 4.3.0.5 " for free to all their subscribers. In Norton, under "settings" I see a tab called "Parental and Privacy Controls". When I click on that tab I am taken to Norton's web site "Norton Online Family" (Parental controls for Norton security users). Therefore it is NOT installed on my system and I have no need to install it. I have Norton's latest release and I see nothing about an "Add-On Pack" anywhere. All I can tell you is that the FREE Malwarebytes version works---and the PAID version does not. I guess my next step is to email Norton to see if they can fix this. Thank you for your support!
  3. Thank you and, YES--I am aware of how the license works. If I built another computer (so I would have TWO systems) I would have no problems with purchasing another license, except for the fact that Malwarebytes doesn't work for me. I thought that maybe it was Norton causing the problems I'm having so I uninstalled Norton. Therefore I was back to Windows firewall and NO antivirus. I left windows Defender disabled. I then reinstalled Malwarebytes PAID version (with ALL background programs disabled----as I always do). Stll no luck. After booting, within a minute or two, I get the same error as always and can not turn protection on. Considering I want to use Norton, I have uninstalled the paid version of Malwarebytes and installed the free version. It works properly and I can manually update and runs scans (if I remember). I have what is called "Chemo Fog" from my treatments and remembering things can be a task. When treatment is finished, everything should go back to normal. Perhaps in a few months I can try again but for now I am forced to stick with the free version. Thank you all for your help! Pete
  4. Hello! First, let me tell you that I am NOT blaming Malwarebytes whatsoever. After using the free version for many years I realized just how selfish I was being. One a side note, I am undergoing both Chemo and Radiation and a person's outlook changes during times like these. The good people at Malwarebytes deserve to be paid for their hard work. So, I am now a permanent paying customer. I have only one account in Windows 7 Pro 64 bit and my guest account is turned off. I would probably have done BOTH (installed the program from my administrative account PLUS "run as administrator"). I did NOT configure Scheduler to run silently from System Account! I made a schedule, but never checked the "run silently" box. I have now done that and I will see what happens before I need to bother Tech Support. I always like to exhaust every possible option before I tie up someone's time in Tech Support. So, thank you for the suggestion and I will wait until tomorrow to see if things improve. If I still have the probleem, then I wll use the "NEWTOPIC" button.
