  1. I remembered the performance tweak needed - turn off indexing to most of the drive.
  2. Ok thanks - the slowness is just boot time so I don't think it's scheduled scans but that's definitely a good idea.
  3. Sorry one last thing: Windows Action Center is still showing Windows Defender, although I turned off its real time shield. The system is also really slow but this is on a mechanical hd and it is Win 8.. Should I be concerned? Does it have anything to do with the fact that I turned off registering MBAM in Windows Security Center?
  4. Thank you both. I was wondering about Web protection since BD has it too. The one thing I didn't do yet was the allow list, or at least not all of it - did the program data folders just now which was one for BD and one for BD Agent...
  5. Sorry I guess I spoke too soon and at this point I'm just wondering about two files that I couldn't find from a list of exclusions: C:\Windows\System32\drivers\mwac.sys and C:\Windows\System32\drivers\farflt.sys Do I need to be concerned about not having those to add?
  6. ok looks like it finished, I seem to remember BD used to not indicate it finished when it did years ago.. Now as far as smooth co-existence of both - I guess there's a standard set of instructions but here are my versions: BD av free 1.0.17.200 mbam 4.2.0.82 Update Package ver 1.0.29507 Component package version 1.0.1036
  7. Windows 8 here. And after I made the post I figured out you can turn off registering in Windows Security Center, and got BD to start installing. However after leaving the house a while where it was installing at 97% it is still at the same spot after I got back. I had turned off all real time shields on MBAM except Web Protection and now turned it off...
  8. I just tried to install Bitdefender and was disappointed that it won't install with MBAM already installed, even after turning off real-time shields. I don't want to deal with the hassle. Isn't there a few major AV that are MBAM friendly? I wouldn't have minded dealing with exclusions but it's a PITA to uninstall MBAM just to install BD. I have this lifetime license from way back that I've activated and don't want it to go to waste, although I have been a Linux user for years and can just dump Windows again if there isn't a straight forward easy solution.
  9. Forget it, it is technically a question for the other company, I certainly do not expect Malwarebytes staff to spend their work hours to address it - was a community question..
  10. Sorry to resurrect an old thread but I'm curious as to the equivalent version of MBAM with their offering of PCShield. (not going to touch the reg cleaner) I just went to their website to download the free one, it's only like 9 megs but we know the executable for the new MBAM 2.xx is closer to 21 megs, so I am wondering if they don't support the new version?
  11. I have since disabled some of the modules in Heimdal and the lockup is not occurring. I plan to re-enable one at a time and try for a while, after talking to Heimdal support I suspect it is the Secure DNS that has an issue with Bitdefender firewall which would not be a conflict with MBAE, so I will re-enable that one last.
  12. Hi, the title pretty much says it all. I noticed the system locking up and have everything in Heimdal off except for the software scan now. I'm wondering if (or what/how) there's a way to use both selectively since I do have some protection in the Pro (trial) license of Heimdal I don't have with MBAE.
  13. Interesting! Yes since MBAM works so well with various AVs why not run another alongside it? You can try any number of free AVs.
  14. Looks like the sale is over as of midnight - but it's good to know it does go on sale sometimes!
  15. Wanted to bump this as Newegg has Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Premium + Anti-Exploit Premium - 3 PCs / 1 Year - Download for $20. Considering either alone normally costs $25 at full retail it's a great deal. And for the record, I do not work for MB just a fan that found a deal. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832562018
