Greetings and welcome :)

Yes, the two should work together fine in realtime, in fact, a member of our very own Research staff uses Avira with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware PRO and has been for quite some time now (at least a couple of years or more as far as I'm aware) and we also have several forum regulars here who also use that combination without issues.

To make certain you don't suffer a performance hit on your system while running them together, I also recommend setting exclusions:

Set Exclusions for Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware in Avira on 32 bit Windows Versions:

  1. Open Avira and click on Local Protection on the left
  2. Click on Realtime Protection
  3. Click on Configuration on the upper right
  4. Click the checkbox next to Expert mode on the upper left so that it is checked
  5. Under Guard, click the + next to Scan to expand the list
  6. Click on Exceptions
  7. Under Processes to be omitted by the Guard click the ... button next to the blank white box
  8. In the browse window that opens, navigate to C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  9. Double-click on mbam.exe then click the Add button
  10. Repeat steps 7-9 for the following files:
    • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamgui.exe
    • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamservice.exe

[*]Click on Apply[*]Close Avira's window

Set Exclusions for Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware in Avira on 64 bit Windows Versions:

  1. Open Avira and click on Local Protection on the left
  2. Click on Realtime Protection
  3. Click on Configuration on the upper right
  4. Click the checkbox next to Expert mode on the upper left so that it is checked
  5. Under Guard, click the + next to Scan to expand the list
  6. Click on Exceptions
  7. Under Processes to be omitted by the Guard click the ... button next to the blank white box
  8. In the browse window that opens, navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  9. Double-click on mbam.exe then click the Add button
  10. Repeat steps 7-9 for the following files:
    • C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamgui.exe
    • C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamservice.exe

[*]Click on Apply[*]Close Avira's window

Set Exclusions for Avira in Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware:

  • Open Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and click on the Ignore List tab
  • Click the Add button on the lower left
  • In the small browse window that opens, navigate to C:\Program Files and click once on Avira and click OK
  • Close Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

Yes, 1.51.2.1300 is the latest version. Please verify that the following are allowed through your firewall or in your firewall's trusted applications list:

  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbam.exe
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamgui.exe
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamservice.exe

Hi i think i have newer versions of avira and malwarebytes i have had a few problems with your instructions

1. i cant find mbamgui.exe

2. i cant find the ignore list at all on malwarebytes

if you could help me with new instructions that would be great cause i think this thread is old, i also have windows 8.1 64bit so it might be a bit different.

thank you for your time

Kaya

Hello Kaya and :welcome:

You have posted to a thread that is over four years old.

With the current version of Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Premium (MBAM2), it is not likely you will require the old exclusions sometimes required with MBAM1 Pro and the Anti-Virus applications of that era.

Thank you.

Hi, Kaya:

1PW is correct in that setting mutual exclusions typically is no longer necessary for most users on most systems.
However, if you wish to do so (or for others who may find this thread), the full set of MBAM files to exclude in your AV is listed below.
And the screenshot shows an example of excluding the folder for an AV (in this case, KIS) in MBAM.

Thank you,

P.S. As this topic is 4 years old, the forum mod team may amicably lock it. If they do, and if you need further help, please just start a new post and someone will assist you.

Please exclude the following files from your Antivirus Software for your version of Windows:

For 32 bit versions of Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 & Windows 8:

  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbam.exe
  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbamdor.exe
  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbampt.exe
  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbamservice.exe
  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbamresearch.exe
  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbamscheduler.exe

For 64 bit versions of Windows Vista, Windows 7 & Windows 8:

  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbam.exe
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbamdor.exe
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbampt.exe
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbamresearch.exe
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbamservice.exe
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware \mbamscheduler.exe

Note: If you are using a software firewall besides the built in Windows Firewall, you'll need to exclude MBAM.EXE, MBAMSERVICE.EXE and MBAMRESEARCH.EXE from it, as well.

Note: Once that's done, please make sure that if either of those programs has any sort of web filter, that you add the following as a trusted site:

data-cdn.mbamupdates.com

You can use MBAM with Avira, but you may need to set exclusion to prevent any conflict.
