Hello and :welcome:

This is from our FAQ located HERE

  • ISSUE: I need to get the latest database onto a computer that cannot access the Internet.
SOLUTION: You can manually copy the database from a working computer using a flash drive or CD onto the infected PC. Our database file is stored in the following locations.
    • Windows XP and 2000
    • C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\rules.ref
    • Windows Vista and Windows 7:
    • C:\ProgramData\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\rules.ref
Note: Starting with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 1.60, you must also copy the file database.conf located within the Configuration folder which is in the same folder as rules.ref listed above.

You can also download a manual update from here - NOTE: This manual update will always be way behind in version level compared to updates from within the program and currently only works with versions of Malwarebytes Anti-Malware before 1.60

Hi, topmoxie:

In addition to Firefox's excellent suggestions.... :)

The offline updater (mbam-rules.exe) does not work with the current version of MBAM (1.60.1.1000).

If you are running an older version of MBAM, the link HERE (as provided by Firefox :) ) should still work, but the databases will be rather outdated.

(The MBAM team is working on the offline updater for the current version -- we'll need to wait until one of them can post with a status update.)

HOWEVER, the good news is that database updates for the current PRO version of MBAM are now incremental, and much, much smaller. :)

Only if you go several days (20 version updates, I think) would MBAM need to download the entire database.

So, if you are not already doing so, I would suggest updating to MBAM PRO 1.60.1.1000, in order to take advantage of the incremental updates.

To perform a clean upgrade to the current version, please follow these steps:

  • If you are running MBAM PRO, please be sure you have your license ID and key available (sent via email at the time of online purchase, or in the box).
  • Download and run mbam-clean.exe from HERE.
  • It will ask to restart your computer; please allow it to do so - this is very important!
  • After the computer restarts, temporarily disable your Anti-Virus and install the latest version of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from HERE.
  • If you are using MBAM PRO, you will need to reactivate (register) the program using the license ID & key.
  • Launch the MBAM program and (if you are using MBAM PRO) set the Protection and Registration.
  • Then go to the UPDATE tab (if not done during installation) and check for updates.
  • Restart the computer again and verify that MBAM is in the task tray (if using the PRO version).
  • Now set up any file exclusions, as may be required in your Anti-Virus/Internet-Security/Firewall applications, and restart your Anti-Virus/Internet-Security applications. You may use the guides posted in the FAQs HERE, or ask and we'll explain how to do it.

I'm sure the MBAM folks will have additional advice, :)
