what actually happens to quarantined items?

Recommended Posts

When MBAM removes an item such as a file or a Registry entry and "quarantines" the item, it is removed from its original location and stored in a protected container. Both the removed item and it location are stored in the container in a way that the file is rendered inert and the location of where it was removed from is also restored. Thus if it is deemed to be a False Positive declaration, the item removed (file or Registry entry) can be restored to its original and working state. If however the item(s) are deemed to be justly removed for malicious activity, the quarantine can be "dumped" such that can not be restored and the container no longer holds any more quarantined items or you can choose to be selective on what is dumped from quarantine.

If files are indeed "infected" then they SHOULD be deleted by MBAM. If it is true file infecting virus that prepends, appends or cavity injects code into a legitimate file or if it is a trojan that "trojanizes" or "patches" a legitimate file by prepending, appending or cavity injection MBAM is unable to extract that malicious code segment and leave the legitimate file in it pre-infected pristine state. Thus MBAM moves the file into quarantine as stated above.

i have deepfreeze installed in my system and i tried using the MBAM to remove and detect viruses. now that the viruses are tentatively removed(because of deepfreeze) something happened in the task manager, something is detected and now i can't even run the task manager. This is why i am afraid of using MBAM, is there any chance that i can restore my system back normal without reformating my disk??

MBAM for the most part detects trojans not viruses. Viruses and many forms of exploits are handled by an anti virus application (NOD32, Kaspersky, Avira, AVG, etc.) not be MBAM.

I think you are misinterpreting the occurrences. MBAM removing DeepFreeze (whatever that is) will not cause a problem with TaskManager. Malware will disable the use of TaskManager specifically as a task of "self preservation".

Please read; I'm infected - What do I do now? and follow its direction to see what else is on your PC that it may be infected with.
