Malwarebytes block my internet access

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I have bought Malwarebytes Pro, and soon it started blocking ports and IPs. At first I thought that it's pretty awesome, but then my internet stopped working. I have tried to look after the list of ports and IPs Malwarebytes blocks, but to no avail to tamper with it myself. I have also tried the "netsh winsock reset" command, to no avail.

What exactly happens is that I can't even repair the connection when MB is on, it crashes on "Refreshing IP address" or something like that, it's the first thing that shows up when I want to repair the connection. I am using Win XP.

When I shut down the protection, after a while, the internet works perfectly (I need to wait a while or turn the modem on/off), so it must be Malwarebytes. I quite like MB, so I'd like to look for a solution first before changing my antivir.

Thanks a lot for help!

Hello and :welcome:

First off, let me just say that Malwarebytes is by no means a replacement for your antivirus software. Malwarebytes is designed to work along side your updated antivirus software. Second, Malwarebytes does not block all traffic so there may be more going on with your computer.

Have you updated Malwarebytes and ran a quick scan? Were any infections found? What antivirus software are you currently using?

Thanks for your reply - and for the tip. I will look for some antivir to work with MB.

I have already updated MB on first use and deleted about 5 infections found. I am using no protection software except MB.

This is the second day I have disabled MB in msconfig and the web works flawlessly.

POST DDS Logs

Please run the following scanner and send back the logs.

Download DDS from one of the locations below and save to your Desktop

dds.scr

dds.com

Temporarily disable any script blocker if your Anti-Virus/Anti-Malware has it.

How To Temporarily Disable Your Anti-virus, Firewall And Anti-malware Programs

Once downloaded you can disconnect from the Internet and disable your Ant-Virus temporarily if needed.

Then double click dds.scr or dds.com to run the tool, on Vista or Win 7 right click and select Run as administrator

Click the Run button if prompted with an Open File - Security Warning dialog box.

A black DOS console should open and run for a moment.

  • When done, DDS will open two (2) logs:
  1. DDS.txt
  2. Attach.txt

  • Save both reports to your desktop
  • Please include the following logs in your next reply: DDS.txt and Attach.txt
You can ignore the note about zipping the Attach.txt file in most cases.

I would recommend getting checked for infection. If your system has a hidden DNS hijack re-routing your internet connection to a malicious DNS server, then that might explain why you can't connect with Malwarebytes active, as it could be blocking connections to the malicious server.
