Network Problems - Upload speedtest fails

Recommended Posts

Because of a weird and consistent lag in multiple online games I decided to go to speedtest.com. Every time I run the test I get good ping and download but the upload sits on "connecting" for 4 minutes and then fails. Online games also work very strangely. It seems like on average every 20 seconds everything will lock up for 1-5 seconds. I called up the cable company and they said everything appears to be working fine. I'm not sure what steps to take next. Could there be faulty wiring in the wall? Is the router having issues even though the cable company says everything is working fine?

Lot of potential issues could cause it. Might try by providing a DDS scan so we can see if anything obvious going on with your system.

Please run the following scanner and send back the logs.

Download DDS from one of the locations below and save to your Desktop

dds.scr

dds.com

Temporarily disable any script blocker if your Anti-Virus/Anti-Malware has it.

How To Temporarily Disable Your Anti-virus, Firewall And Anti-malware Programs

Once downloaded you can disconnect from the Internet and disable your Ant-Virus temporarily if needed.

Then double click dds.scr or dds.com to run the tool, on Vista or Win 7 right click and select Run as administrator

Click the Run button if prompted with an Open File - Security Warning dialog box.

A black DOS console should open and run for a moment.

When done, DDS will open two (2) logs:
  1. DDS.txt
  2. Attach.txt

  • Save both reports to your desktop
  • Please include the following logs in your next reply: DDS.txt and Attach.txt
You can ignore the note about zipping the Attach.txt file in most cases.

DDS and Attach are attached.

I was talking to someone at work today who is network savvy about my internet problems and he asked if my coaxial (sp?) cable went through a splitter and was telling me that if the splitter went to nothing it could be causing problems. It turns out that right out of the wall the coaxial cable goes into a splitter with 3 outbound ports. One goes to the cable box, one goes to my modem, and the other goes to another coaxial cable that is connected to nothing. Could this be the cause of my problems? The tech guy at work said if your cable is running to a dead connection it bounces back and screws the whole thing up.

Thank you for the help. I really appreciate it.

No I would not worry about the information provided by your coworker. Your computer logs show that you're having some issue.

If this file is not too big can you zip it and upload it? If it's bigger than a few MB then let me know how big it is.

C:\Windows\MEMORY.DMP

The Event Logs don't say for sure that the computer is infected but it does show some potential signs that are common from infections and warrants further investigation.

When I right click and "send to" compressed folder in Windows Exporer on C:\Windows\MEMORY.DMP it first says "Windows can not create the Compressed folder here. Do you want to send it to desktop?" I click yes and up pops an error box that says "File not found or no read permission."

I made a copy of this file and moved the copy to the desktop and that let me zip it. It is still too big though 109mb zipped and 555mb unzipped.

Yeah that's what I thought. Well aside from some 3rd party site to upload to there is no easy way to share that file here.

That said though I would recommend having someone assist you in checking your system for an infection which might possibly be the cause of thes

Does the fact that the memory.dmp file is 555mb large support the notion that this is some sort of virus/infection in my computer? My computer runs fine other than online video games and I was unaware that a virus could be made to target a user to make them think they were experiencing lag.

You can use the following search to see that this error message is rather common but has quite a few different possible causes.

STOP Error 0x00000019

If you're unable to find a direct fix from those links then you can also review the following post

There is a utility for Minidumps but I don't think it can read full dumps like you have here.
