Mac Pro may soon be updated for the first time in almost 2 years

Whither Mac Pro? It'll get a refresh, claim new sources.

After almost two years without an update, the Mac Pro may indeed see some new specs next week at Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference. 9to5Mac, the latest source for all things rumored, claims to have new information following its previous report that most Macs would see an update at WWDC. This time, the site says definitively that the Mac Pro will get an update next week, though there is virtually no information on the specs of the new machines.

As we mentioned on Monday of this week, the Mac Pro hasn't been updated since 2010 and many pros have begun to feel pessimistic about an update anytime in the foreseeable future. After all, Apple has already killed off its server product, the Xserve, and has made significant changes to its pro video editing suite, Final Cut Pro. Could the Mac Pro be next? It surely could be, as Apple's desktop sales are routinely dwarfed by its sales of notebooks and iOS devices. But according to the latest information, it won't.

9to5Mac claims the updated Mac Pro will come in three configurations, with one being set up with OS X Server capabilities (not unlike the Mac mini with OS X Server capabilities). It seems almost guaranteed that Apple will at least add Thunderbolt to the Mac Pro, and we're sure the graphics will be bumped as well. Otherwise, the specs remain a mystery at this point, so we'll have to find out whether this one turns out to be a win on the bingo board when the WWDC keynote takes place next Monday.
