Using Malwarebytes Anti-Rootkit BETA

Recommended Posts

Malwarebytes Anti-Rookti BETA says it is expired even though I've downloaded the latest version

This is a known issue which occurs when you've run Malwarebytes Anti-Rootkit BETA previously and then move the tool to a different location and attempt to run it again. To correct this problem, do either of the following:

Option 1: Move the mbar folder to its previous location

  1. Navigate to the location where you are attempting to run Malwarebytes Anti-Rootkit from and right-click on the folder containing mbar.exe and select Cut
  2. Navigate to the location from which you originally had the tool stored when it last worked without error and right-click in any empty space within that folder and select Paste
  3. Open the folder you just placed in the new location and run mbar.exe again and it should work without error

Option 2: Download and run a fresh copy of Malwarebytes Anti-Rootkit from the new location

Note: Any scan logs from Malwarebytes Anti-Rootkit from previous scans will be deleted using this method unless you move them to another location first before proceeding

  1. Delete the folder containing mbar.exe from your computer (the folder is named mbar by default)
  2. Download a new copy of Malwarebytes Anti-Rootkit BETA from this page
  3. Extract the folder to the new location from which you wish to run the tool
  4. Open the folder you just created and run mbar.exe again and it should function properly
