TV:
-----
CBS Evening news
Discovery Network Channels (Science, Discovery, History, H2, etc, yada, yada...)
Big Bang Theory

Movies:

----------
Fantasy:
Sucker Punch (Emily Browning and Scott Glenn)
Awesome music coupled with fantastic fantasy sequences
Quotes:
"If you don't stand for something you'll fall for anything"
and
"Who honors those we love for the very life we live?
Who sends monsters to kill us, and at the same time sings that we will never die?
Who teaches us what's real and how to laugh at lies?
Who decides why we live and what we'll die to defend? Who chains us? And Who holds the key that can set us free...
It's You. You have all the weapons you need. Now Fight!"

Notable songs from above soundtrack:

Army of Me   5:19

White Rabbit   12:10

Tomorrow Never Knows 26:50

When the music is coupled with the movie's visual fantasy sequences, they come to life !

Comedy:
Monty Python and the Holy Grail (Monty Python Troupe)
There are so many funny and quotable lines, I know not where to begin...

Drama;  well there are just too many to be a favorite.

There are two movies that do standout.

A Taiwanese movie with English subtitles; Eat, Drink, Man, Woman

It might be Taiwanese but is the "human spirit" and thus it has no country.

Therefore the movie was remade for the American market called Tortilla Soup which stars;

Hector Elizandro, Elizabeth Pena, Rachel Welch and Paul Rodriguez

If you have seen one you must see the other !

Somebody likes Sucker Punch

Actually looking at just the initial screen shot I thought it would be another one of the hundreds of lame shows.

After watching part of it from an Android tablet while out on a camping trip I decided I needed to watch the full show when I got home.

I think it was an amazing show due to such a vivid wild imagination and some well carried out special effects and reasonably good acting as well

A pleasantly surprising movie for me.

Would have to either rent or purchase or get lucky to watch an airing of it.

Sarah's Key (2010) - IMDB

Sarah's Key - Wikipedia

Sarah's Key follows an American journalist's present-day investigation into the Vel' d'Hiv Roundup of Jews in German-occupied Paris in 1942. It tells the story of young girl Sarah's experiences during and after these events, illustrating the participation of the French bureaucracy while also showing how other French citizens hid and protected Sarah from Vichy France authorities.[3]

The film alternates between Sarah's life in 1942 and the journalist researching the story in 2009.

and a few others whose names escape me at the moment. I didn't list shows that people under 45 wouldn't remembers or know of. :P

I DVR a lot of these at night and watch with the newspaper in the AM. ;)

Times sure change - I used to spend 75 hours a week on the computer and 5 hours a week on TV/CABLE; now I spend more time multi-tasking while reading/TV and about 20 hours a week on the computer - 90% of the 20 on Malewarebytes Board.

Ain't that true!

That's because they're too intellectually challenging for the slobbering masses. :P

Law and Order (all iterations thereof) -- especially the  originals (Jerry Orbach!), the original "Criminal Intent" and UK series

Southland - cancelled - ****  Forgot about that one!

Broadchurch

Yeah, what's the point?

They won't have any clue what we're talking about. :D

(Or, if they do, they will have watched the re-runs, while we watched the originals, in B/W.)

And thank heavens for that!

I'd be seriously lost in space with keeping everything up to date without your timely and informative Software Updates (and other) posts.

Thanks for all those!

I appreciate it!

TV:

  • Breaking Bad (probably the best TV drama series ever)
  • Any British crime/mystery drama (past, present or future - Morse, MI-5, Cracker, Coppers, DCI Banks, Luther, Prime Suspect, Endeavor, Inspector George Gently, Scott & Bailey, Wallander, Broadchurch, Foyle's War, The Bletchley Circle, Zen, Life on Mars,The (old) Sherlock Holmes series (Jeremy Irons) and countless others)
  • Mad Men (mostly for the 50s- and 60s-era design/wardrobe/advertising (and Jon Hamm), rather than the plot per se)
  • The Killing (a bit esoteric and an acquired taste, but outstanding cast and acting esp with the recent Season 3)
  • Britcoms, old and new (Fawlty Towers, Monty Python's FC, Little Britain, Creature Comforts, etc)
  • Science, nature & technology shows, esp on PBS
  • Junkyard Wars (the original version)
  • Early seasons of Mythbusters (before they jumped the shark)

Movies:

  • Monty Python  (Holy Grail, Brazil, Meaning of Life)
  • The "original", cult sci-fi flicks: 2001, Andromeda Strain, Alien, Blade Runner, etc
  • Anything with Peter Sellers, especially the NON-Pink Panther films
  • Anything with "Archibald Leach" -- extra credit, if you know his stage name
  • Anything Hitchcock
  • Anything Film Noir
  • To Kill a Mockingbird

And, as Shy said, so many others whose names escape my feeble mind.

OOPS!

I guess that was more than the allotted 3 per category that the OP requested. ;)
