Windows Activation Pro virus

Recommended Posts

Removal of this malware isn't that hard at all. I wrote instructions for Windows 7, but it shouldn't be difficult to do the same thing on newer operating systems.

EDIT: Tested on Windows 10, you should click More details and then File >> Run new task within your Task Manager to be able to follow whole procedure.

  • Press Ctrl + Alt + Delete on your keyboard and select Task Manager.
  • Click Applications tab, then among processes find and select Product key activation and click End Task.123.png
  • It could refuse, but you can try several times until you get only black screen on your window or until your Desktop returns. On 64-bit operating system you should immediately be returned to your Desktop.
  • Now in Task Manager click New Task, type explorer and click OK. You should get My Computer window. If you got access to your Desktop after first step, just open My Computer (This PC) the usual way.
  • Navigate to C:\Program Files or C:\Program Files(x86) and delete Productkeyupdate folder.
  • Go back to Task Manager again, click New Task, type regedit and click OK.
  • Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon and delete value named Shell like on the image below. Make sure that you have Productkeyupdate.exe within your Shell value. If there is something else, like explorer.exe, don't delete it.

  • Now navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon and delete Shell value again. If you have 64-bit operating system, you'll need to navigate to this key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon

  • Now exit registry editor and in Task Manager click New Task one more time. Type CMD and click OK.
  • Type this command and press Enter:
    shutdown /r /t 0

  • Malware should be completely deleted and hopefully your Desktop will be back now after restart.
