Protection from doxing?

Are there ways to protect from doxing? Is there a way to be completely immune from it? I'm completely illiterate on this topic.

Doxing is just collecting what info someone can gather from the net about you. The only protection is don't leave a huge footprint behind what you do on the Internet, An example being use different account names for each account you have by doing so if some one does a search on say dimitri001 they may if you have other accounts in this name be able to get the other account names and then that will lead to more and more info on you.

But then again you could be socially engineering asking this question in the hope your target will answer and show what he/she knows lol.
