May I kindly ask WHY you posted this link? I copied and pasted it into my firefox address bar because you are a moderator and I figured it was safe. It's to a porn site! :)

I should have alert about the content. Hopefully, there's no pics.

BTW, just look where this page is hosted.

Hmm, from the Google search results on the domain iobit.com it rather appears to me that their site has been hacked.

I didn't go to any pages but currently all their pages (also the "legit" ones about their applications) seem to be full of that porn related text.

I didn't leave the page up more than a couple of seconds once I saw the word 'porn' on it. I've also removed it from my Firefox history list so I don't have the name, but it didn't show up in that history as an iobits page, it showed up with the word 'porn' in it--something about downloading free porn games. I got out of there fast in case it led to one of those drive by downloads.

I am going to be spending the afternoon scanning this computer now, as well as perusing a hijack this log. :)

Fun, fun, fun! :) The MWB scan was negative.

No, MBM did not block the page, nor did WOT, unfortunately. (This is also why I used Firefox to go to the page, because I thought WOT would provide some measure of protection if need be.)

Based on a couple things I'm seeing on there, I'm not entirely convinced they have been hacked. The download you're taken to on the link posted above for example, points to;

http://www.iobit.com/adse/dl.php?ref=crack&url=http://download.iobit.com/AWCSetup.exe

In addition, look at the date the page was created .... there's no way they couldn't have been aware of this.

Thanks for the info MysteryFCM

So then this - apparently porn related - file (along with another one) was the one which was flagged by Site Advisor as malicious?

http://www.siteadvisor.com/sites/iobit.com/downloads/

Whatever is going on, it's pretty disturbing... :)

I didn't even see the download button, didn't stay on the page long enough. I just saw the word 'porn', figured it was a bad page, and got outa there fast. (I've had bad experiences with malicious websites and drive by downloads recently, didn't want a repeat of that.)

My Hijack This log looks OK, not seeing anything in Process Explorer that shouldn't be there, I've cleared FF's cache, deleted the Iobits cookie and a couple of other ones I thought didn't need to be there, and I'll be running a scan with my AVG. (Just a little paranoid, eh? )

I had been reading the discussion of this on the Iobits forum, but is that now a bad link, too?

I am a news reporter, and have serious concerns about two things. First, the alleged theft of intellectual property from MalwareBytes by another company. Secondly, and maybe this is just my suspicious nature, could this company be involved in GENERATING malicious software?

It would seem plausible to me that a company that would steal another companies software, would also be involved in disassembling it and producing a super virus/infestation that would bypass the that software.

I welcome your comments.

Bill

On a tangent, but still apropos IMO:

I used Malwarebytes freeware, along with other products for some years. I got hit hard by infections in the spring I could not remove, and being busy like we are all are, decided the slick one button interface of IObit was worth a yearly subscription.

Forward to Oct 29, 2009, when I downloaded the latest 360 update. A toolbar I did not ask for (a well known adware "Conduit"), and could not refuse install of, and not remove was "gifted" to me. At first IObit's help desk and the product web site treated me like a clueless newbie. I explained that I tried the IObit instructions, Firefox instructions, regedit, all to no avail. Finally, after pursuing them with over 30 emails/posts go their attention enoughfor them to give me the location of the directory/Key that I had to delete to rid myself of it. I also found a log which showed the ~25 attempts I made to remove the toolbar.

To me its beyond ironic that as a paying customer I would be infected with a hijacker (changed which google I used, and overrode almost all of my custom Firefox settings), that recorded and sent all my keystrokes to a a vendor that IObit split the profits from this "marriage".

It is with little sense of wonder that just as I wrapped up my battle with IObit that this whole stolen intellectual property issue has arisen. I have removed all my IObit infections, I have gotten a pro rated refund from my credit card company, and will be buying the full version of Malwarebytes within a day or two.

BTW,

To add to the previous note, while not a professional in the security area, have 24 years of experience as a UNIX/Linux/OpenBSD,Win software architect, toolsmith, and QA Manager/Architect and Malwarebytes output on this topic are drastically more professional then IObit, and I do expect IObit to lose this battle, although probably not the war - in that they will remain in business.

Personally, I would be happy if IOBit would just admit that they have done this, and then pay restitution to the companies that they have stolen from. Not just us, but all of the others as well.

Btw, iobit also deleted ALL of the comments that were made to their denial article on their blog.

Just when there is trouble, a malicious evil hack (who will be blamed ?) forces them to delete things ?

They are very unlucky.

Edited : added 2nd and 3rd quote to clarify.

bags,

It is unfortunate when a security company forces a toolbar on their users. We have seen it done too many times.

True enough, but if this aforementioned toolbar is what many have claimed, then it's far worse than what I've seen any other security vendor do to date. They bundled adware such as Ask, Google, MSN/Bing or Yahoo etc, this one sounds like spyware, not just adware, which is far more malicious. It isn't just trying to sell products to the users and skew search results, it's logging keystrokes and tracking users' behavior (again, this is only if the alegations regarding this particular toolbar are true, I've no personal experience with it so I do not know).

Bad, bad, bad, bad BAD

I kept getting WOT Blocks on 10bit, also Malwarebytes blocked the IP. But I did get to the forum, this is what is going on: http://forums.iobit.com/showthread.php?t=4802 getting quite lengthy.

Lots of bad blood there among the members who have purchased and installed 10bit.

Praying for you Marcin, that you make out OK on this..

I went to look at that thread, and WOT now has a yellow/orange circle on that site. So not blocking it, but not a good rating anymore either.

The Discussion in there forum is getting very ugly.

I think an IP Block on IObit is in order.

You're right on that one.

Yesterday, when I went to one of the Iobits forum pages, MWB IP blocker did block some content, but not the entire page. Maybe someone had a sig or graphic that MWB didn't like.

I don't think I'll bother reading that website anymore. I was just curious, anyway, really had no other reason to go there. I had wondered if Iobits had an explanation for what happened, but I haven't seen one that really made any sense.

Well, forewarned is forearmed. I had never heard of Iobits before all of this came up, but at least now I know to stay away from all of their stuff and to recommend likewise to anyone else who may be considering using it.

Oh...Hehe, all my scans came up clean.

It was just a first guess on my part, that this would be possible. The Google search results just looked strange with those porn related contents.

However, MysteryFCM's information, and also proof posted meanwhile on the IOBit Forums shows that the pages in question have been there since several weeks.

I think that the deletion and closure of comments on their blog is a separate issue.

I could have completely understood if they had edited out rude and inappropriate content, and even that they had closed it for further comments, but deleting all comments (even the neutral ones, or the questions which were posted in a polite way) that have been there for more than 24 hours? The only way to ask for an explanation is now to register on that forum...

Btw, it seems that the responsible persons - or those who could provide information are currently hiding. Not even their forum staff can contact them... nor do their users get replies to technical issues they are experiencing :)

I never saw spam bots or similar structures create the type of page S!ri pointed to in his previous post. I mean full pages, not automatic spam comments.

They are getting extra time, and modifying things (the toolbar, for example).

You have been banned for the following reason:

Registered to cry about Iobit, has no clue whats REALLY going on. Meth kills, mmmk? Go away.

Date the ban will be lifted: Never

This is from MajorGeeks forum.

Okay, so they clam I don't have a clue as to what is REALLY going on. Point blank, what is going on? Major Geek says you and IoBit are his friends, but he apparently is reluctant to stop listing IoBit products on his site. Hay I have read your post and find them hard to not believe. I have read the reply of IoBit and find it hard to believe. Just thought I would post this here to let people know that perhaps Major Geeks isn't that good of a friend after all. but of course that is up to you to determine. Thanks for listing, and no I have no ax to grind.

Thanks

Wildman
