Malwarebytes Hijacked - Is it True?

Recently, while using Malwarebytes, the application "detected itself" with a "Don't.Steal.Our.Software" worm or virus. Even though I regularly download the application from www.malwarebytes.org or cnet.com, I became suspicious. I later found some articles that IOBit had "apparently" hijacked the Malwarebytes database.

I've waited a few weeks and was hoping to see some type of info/update about this or even if it's true. Is it? How can I know that I've got the correct version? The correct database?

Was the file detected by the scanner or the protection module? Would you please post a log of what was found as I suspect this may actually be a false positive?

Well... that's a problem. I do know that it was the scanner. But logs I don't have because once I read articles about the problem, I "kinda ran away" for a time.

So any conclusions to this question? Becuase I just had something strange happen. While searching for something I opened an unknown website and got a window that said I had some viruses or something like that...so I ctrl alt del and closed the window using my keyboard...... so I went to open malwarebytes and it said.....something like.... an update has installed and ( I then needed to click ok or cancel I clicked OK) and then it said malwarabytes has been installed!!! I thought I already had it installed (does it install every time you use it?) anyhow so went ahead and I right clicked my original malwarebyte icon and started a scan...then a window popped up and said scan complete which took all of 11 seconds...to sum this up I had 2 scans going at once. I am sorry if I am confusing ...but I am confused! I don't what I installed on my computer.

Anyhow I scanned and my computer was clean. I have the free version, does it update on it's own? Has malwarebytes been hijacked???

Should I uninstall and install again? HELP

Malwarebytes has NOT been hijacked to my knowledge.

dazgoby; it sounds as though you are infected and have a fake antivirus/fake antimalware application on board.

What IObit allegedly did was steal the Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware detection database and use it in their own security product to improve their detection rate, not hijack the application itself.

I believe the detection you saw is simply due to a heuristic detection, possibly based on where the file was stored which is why I need to see a scan log so we can figure out what happened and hopefully resolve it for you.

If you wouldn't mind, please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware again from here and install it. Then run a Quick Scan and copy and paste the contents of the log into your next reply so we can find out what is causing this detection. Make sure that the installer is stored in the same folder that you had it in previously when it was detected by the scan.

First, Malwarebytes in general has not been "hijacked" - Scamware people hate us because we do such a good job removing them -

Second, the Free version will not Automatically update - You open the main page (click on the icon) and click Update > Check for Updates > Done -

Third, as your post is a bit long it should have its own thread - It gets hard to actually know your problems as we are posting over each other now -
