Absolute Notifier

11 posts in this topic

A strange think happen. I was just surfing to websites that I always do and a I get a pop message saying that I couldn't receive the message on my Vista. I clicked on it to receive the message and my laptop went to black screen and it showed like some weird light blue screen and it was telling me to install something for IE8. Well I didn't download it and close those windows and it went to black screen again and I was disconnected from the internet. Weird thing is I wasn't using IE8. I was using Firefox. Well since I thought it could be a virus and I check my task manager to see any programs that shouldn't be running and I didn't find anything there. I checked my programs and I found "Absolute Notifier" by Absolute Software and it was installed on 10/29/2010. I've never installed this program at all and I was wondering if it's a trojan or what?

:)

You probably have some malware installed. I recommend reading here. Also what antivirus are you running?

I have McAfee Antivirus Plus, use Malwarebytes free edition, and I also use Superantispyware free edition.

Yeah I try to keep my computer protected to the max. :)

Now also, yesterday my AOL mail was hijacked. Well I think it was hijacked since AOL compromised my email saying I sent a lot of spam emails. Well I changed the password and when I checked my email and went to the sent area, it was empty. So I guessed it was hijacked rather than hacked by a keylogger. Then now this happen with some weird message popped on me.

Absolute Notifier is the tool Lojack for Laptops uses to track your stolen laptop after it has been stolen and reported. Please do not delete this if you have an activated Lojack account. It comes setup from the vendor if ordered with the laptop. Contact customer service for your laptop and check BEFORE removal.

I'm not sure that that's all it is...

I had Lojack for my laptop... but it expired months ago. I restart my laptop today and all of a sudden I find it on here. Coincidentally, several java apps have stopped working for me, and MalwareBytes was blocked from starting on start-up.

One of the front page results of a google search also had "Thinkpoint" which was the first malware to ever really breach my laptop--that was about 2-3 weeks ago.

I haven't researched much beyond that, but the fact that this program is now suddenly on my laptop (never saw it even when I did have Lojack) seems suspicious. I never received an email or confirmation that this program was from Lojack or would be installed.

No edit button on these forums? To be clear, I meant that I found "Absolute Notifier".
