Malware won't allow connect to internet to download software

3 posts in this topic

I am told that I need to download malwarebytes software to remove a vicious malware program that keeps telling my computer is infected with a virus.

I've rebooted in safemode with networking at least a hundred times yet I cannot get to the internet to even try to download it (I'm on a friend's computer at the moment). What can I do?

The only option I can think of is to have a friend download it to a cd and run the program off the CD in safemode? Will this work?

Thank you, any help you can provide would be welcomed.

PS To answer your question more directly in the interim, yes, you can install MBAM from a CD (probably safer than inserting a clean USB flash drive into the infected machine). Scroll down at this link: for this info:

ISSUE: I need to get the latest database onto a computer that cannot access the Internet.

SOLUTION: You can manually copy the database from a working computer using a flash drive or CD onto the infected PC. The database file is stored in the following locations.

* Windows XP and 2000

* C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\rules.ref

* Windows Vista and Windows 7:

* C:\ProgramData\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\rules.ref
