AVG Internet Security 2011

Recommended Posts

Malwarebytes 1.50.1.1100 (Licensed)

I am running AVG Internet Security 2011 64Bit on Windows 7 64Bit. In the last few days, my AVG firewall has become 'disabled' so following AVG's instructions, I uninstalled AVG, shut down Malwarebytes, reinstalled AVG and the firewall is now operational.

My problem is that when running Malwarebytes now, when attempting to enable the protection module, I receive the error:

[start Service] Failed to perform desired action. Error 1058

Is this incompatibility a known issue? It only began a few days ago, previously the 2 programs worked well together.

Thanks in advance for any insights.

Greetings and welcome :)

Please follow the instructions for setting exclusions in Section H of our FAQ for AVG. It should resolve the issue.

Please let me know how it goes.

Thanks :)

Thanks for the quick response.

Unfortunately that did not help. I have followed all the instructions in the FAQ but I still get the error message. I have attached a screen shot of my excluded items.

Hello again,

Please do the following:

  • Download and run mbam-clean.exe from here
  • It will ask to restart your computer, please allow it to do so very important
  • After the computer restarts, temporarily disable your Anti-Virus and install the latest version of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from here
    • Note: You will need to reactivate the program using the license you were sent via email if using the Pro version
    • Launch the program and set the Protection and Registration. Then go to the UPDATE tab if not done during installation and check for updates.
Restart the computer again and verify that MBAM is in the task tray if using the Pro version. Now setup any file exclusions as may be required in your Anti-Virus/Internet-Security/Firewall applications and restart your Anti-Virus/Internet-Security applications. You may use the guides posted in the FAQ's here or ask and we'll explain how to do it.

Once that's done, verify that your exclusions still exist in AVG and also do the following:

Set Exclusions for AVG Free 2011 in Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware:

  • Open Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and click on the Ignore List tab
  • Click on the Add button
  • In the small browse window that opens, navigate to C:\Program Files and click once on AVG and click OK
  • Close Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

Then enable the protection module in Malwarebytes and let me know if it's now working or not.

Thanks :)
